Five Weeks

As I sit here writing the five week update, my sweet boy is sleeping...and he slept from 11 to 5 last night!! And again from 6 until now...about 8:30! Yesterday was a wonderful day - he was so alert and awake all day and only cried twice. I even got to go get my hair "did" and go to see "Chicago" at the Peace Center while mom/Shay babysat. Life is getting back to normal, but better than normal because Rivers makes everything better. I found myself speeding home from my hair cut because I wanted to see him so badly!

Anyway, we had his one month appointment at the pediatrician on Monday, and as we suspected, Rivers is a growing and growing! He weighed in at 10 lbs, 11 oz and is 23 inches long! That means he has gained over two pounds and has grown two inches in one month. His weight is the 69th percentile and his length is the 90th percentile for his age. And guess what - his head circumfrence is the 92nd percentile! What is it with this kid and his head?!

The pediatrician said he is in excellent health and right where he needs to be developmentally. Not counting a massive spit up episode on Friday, he has had little to no reflux and is doing great eating (obviously!) His little personality is coming out more and more, and I love to hear him "talk" with us!

Four Weeks!

How is it possible that it's the middle of August when I feel like it's July 15? These past few weeks have been a blur of feedings, diapers and sweet visitors. Rivers is still doing great and is an angel -- well, most of the time! He is eating well and growing (he's already grown out of some of his clothes in length) and sleeping pretty well. Sometimes he will give us a good 5 hours of sleep at night, but usually he's up every three hours or so waiting on mom to bring a midnight snack :)

This week he is much more alert and starting to lose that teeny, newborn feel. He holds his head up pretty well, kicks his little legs a lot and has started precious cooing! I think he is very close to smiling at us -- I've seen his precious smile before, but not yet when I know it's because he's smiling at us. He also is getting a little bit of chub on his chin(s). Don't worry - he still has all of that thick, dark, precious hair!

Shay is back at work after taking a week off to hang out with the family, and it was wonderful having him home! I am still trying to figure out how the rest of the moms in the world get up, dressed and showered before 2 p.m. while taking care of a newborn. If my mom didn't come over some days I don't think it would happen at all!

Above are some pictures from bath time last week. He can now take a "big boy" bath since his little belly button decided to appear! We go to the doctor for his one month appointment on Monday, so I'll update some more then. Love you all!
