Stayin' Classy in San Diego

Hi blog friends! Remember me? :) We have a lot to catch up on! A few weekends ago, Shay and I had the opportunity to visit San Diego! He earned a leadership award at work, and part of that award was the chance to go to a resident leadership conference in San Diego. I've never been to southern California, and about all I knew about San Diego was that it plays a big role in one of our favorite movies, Anchorman, so I decided to tag along! Here are some of the sights that we enjoyed (sadly, a giant news team gang fight was not on the list):

This was our gorgeous hotel, the Hotel Del Coronado - called "The Del" to the locals. It is on Coronado Island, right near San Diego, and it truly was magnificent. I don't know exactly how old it is, but it is at least 100 years old - very Titanic-esque. It had a great pool, was right on the beach, and had some fabulous (if pricey) restaurants. One of my favorite parts was that they offered yoga on the beach in the morning. I LOVED it! However, it was strange for this East Coast girl to be facing the ocean and realize that the sun was rising behind me. Usually I see sun rises on the ocean, not sunsets!

The first day, we took a trolley tour of the town and hopped off for a nice long while at Old Town where we had amazing Mexican food. Freshly made tortillas (they make them literally right in front of you), fresh guacamole, fish tacos, and of course, margaritas! We almost rolled out of there we were so stuffed, but it was totally worth it!

The second night, we went out on the town to the Gaslamp District. We had some sushi at a trendy little spot called Ra (yes, without the w) then walked over to a really cool rooftop bar called Altitude. As you can see, the view was overlooking the professional baseball stadium, Petco Park. There was not a game that night, but it was very cool nonetheless!

The last day, I dragged Shay to Sea World! We had fun meeting Shamu, the dolphins and the otters. It is a huge place and right on the ocean. We were probably the only people older than 15 who weren't there with their kids, but we were kids at heart!

We did a lot of other exploring in Coronado and all in all had a wonderful time. It was the longest time I had spent away from Rivers (4 nights) but thanks to Skype we got to see him and keep in touch with him and his wonderful grandparents who kept him.
